Due to popular demand we are bringing back The Cracow Percussion Festival: "Sources and Inspirations." The last edition of this festival took place in 2015. 10 years ago Jan Pilch, percussion instructor and lecturer at the Music Academy of Cracow, launched the Festival at the Academy.
This edition will also be housed at the Academy. Four concerts will be given in the Concert Hall of the Music Academy of Cracow at St Tomasz Street 43. The program of the festival is in its final stages of preparation. The official festival will be preceded by the concert of two prominent American vanguard percussion players: Joey Baron and Robin Schulkowsky. This will be their first concert in Cracow. After the concert there will be a discussion with the artists about their music.
In October we will hear two percussion groups: Debrecen Percussion Group under the direction of Istvan Sabo from Hungary as well as The Persecussio Group from Valencia under the baton of Manel Ramada. A duo of our own very talented young percussion players, Jakub Kolodziejczyk and Pawel Dyyak, will also perform there.
Additionally, we are preparing a special concert featuring percussion players connected with the Academy: its graduates and professors. This project, called The Drummers of Krakow, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Chair of Jazz in the Academy, ties into the memorable concert of the Swiss group The Drummers, conducted by Pierre Favre. A concert devoted to ethnic music is also in the works; its guest performers will be: Pete Lockett and "One World International Project" by Grzech Piotrowski. This year we will be collaborating with the Club Strefa Etno with evening drum sessions and club concerts.
With the exception of Pete Lockett, the artists might not be the "stars" of the industry but we made the conscious decision to show percussion in varied contexts and especially through the prism of interesting music, made by artists who might not as yet be well known but are deserving of attention.
We invite you cordially to all the happenings of the festival.
